I can't find a previous thread for this. I'm looking for a company to spray for ants around my rental property in Mountain View. Is this a good time of year to do it, or should I wait until spring? I don't think I want a contract, but I'm not totally against that if it's reasonable. I want to use the least amount of pesticide around the property as necessary.

I would just put down a mixture of boric acid and sugary syrup (i.e. Terro Liquid Ant Bait). I've always believed exterminators had a vested interest in never completely eliminating pest problems, so they could keep coming back every month. I know it's a lot easier to eliminate ant problems than they make it seem. I put Terro down when I see ants and I don't see them again for six months to a year, which is a heck of a lot better than Orkin ever did when I was paying them to come every month.

I guess it's kinda hard to put down ant bait when you're on the opposite coast from your rental. But for anyone who is treating a local property, I'd go with the DIY treatment, at least for ants.
