My read of the acceptable yard trimmings for curbside set-out is that acorns are excluded as "fruits and vegetables". So what can I do with the 150+ lbs of acorns I just raked off my lawn and sidewalk? I'm wondering if I should sign up for the extra yard trimmings cart. Or maybe just throw them in my SUV and dump them at my other house in Santa Clara which is empty right now.

I have a crab apple tree that produces about a hundred pounds during the summer. I donate them to a local wildlife rescue for orphaned baby animals.

I love ferrettkona's idea! And actually, people I know who raise chickens tell me the chickens will enthusiastically eat all sorts of things like melon rinds, vegetable trimmings... I have to wonder if crushing the Acorns to make the insides accessible would turn Acorns into a yummy treat for Chickens.

FWIW: I learned everyone just puts them out in their yard waste. My landscaper raked the yard and sidewalk and put about 100lbs in our pile and I dumped another 100lbs that I had raked on top of that. They were all picked up with the rest of the green waste.
