I'm going to school at De Anza in Cupertino, starting in September, and need a place to live where I can get to the school via public transit ideally within 30-40 minutes. I'm not looking for a full studio or anything, just my own bedroom. 6-12 month lease is fine. What kind of prices should I expect in Cupertino, San Jose, Campbell area? I'm new to the Bay Area and realize pricing is steep.

The best solution will be something along Stevens Creek Blvd. or West San Carlos Street, so that you can take the 323 BRT bus to campus. There is a large cluster of them around Meridian Ave. that should have something workable for you. Expect to pay $800-1200 for a room depending on location and amenities.

Check out the roommate ads on Santa Clara University off-campus housing:

I once rented to a student who commuted to De Anza from the building I managed in Santa Clara.
