I received a job offer in Santa Clara and will be relocating from DC. I have less than a month to find an apartment. Can anyone please help? I will be working near Great America Parkway in Santa Clara and will be doing consulting work so I will be traveling all over Silicon Valley. Where's a halfway trend plact to live? Im looking for a NICE 2 bedroom in a decent neighborhood for $1500-1800/month. In terms of commute, i would like to keep it under 45mins. Any advice on specific areas or even specific apartment complexes? Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure San Jose has many "trendy" areas, but Santana Row will be the closest thing to trendy you will find. Many shops, restaraunts, clubs, bars, etc. You may find something in your range. You may also try Willow Glen, thats an area of San Jose.

Check www.craigslist.com under the apts/housing section and type in your criteria.

Thanks. I'm a little confused as to what part of san jose to search for in Craigslist. Is Santana Row in west SJ? What would the commute be like from that area of San Jose to santa Clara?

Santana Row is west S.J. Willow Glen is near downtown. Either way, you could get to Great America Pkwy in about 30 minutes.

As mentioned, Santana Row is the "trendiest" part of San Jose... but as for specific towns, you should check out Mountain View, which is about 9-10 miles north of Santa Clara. It's very cute, with a real "hopping" downtown on Castro street, a huge park/recreation area, and an amphitheatre (Shoreline). It's also slightly cheaper by our standards, so you should be able to find something in your budget - check craigslist for rental listings (under Peninsula).

How could I forget about Mountain View. Honestly I would recommend the area around Downtown MV before Santana Row. And the commute to Great America Pkwy is probably less hectic.

I agree with Mountain View. Central to many major companies, Los Altos downtown, Palo Alto downton, Menlo Park, etc.

Thanks for your all your suggestions! Ive been doing a lot of research and I'm actually leaning towards Mountain View. Now, the hard part is chosing an apartment without seeing it first, and depending on apartmentratings.com for a decent one! If you know of any specific complexes that are decent, please share. I've been looking at Archstone and Avalon. How is Cupertino?

Cupertino is nice. It is the more affluent area with mostly asians. It is more of a bedroom community, so there is nothing trendy about it. It is very expensive. I live in a 2 bedroom townhome, and pay $1350 for rent. My rent is VERY cheap for this area. I guess my landlord doesn't like to raise rent because the same townhouse next door is up for rent for $1900/month. I guess it is because of the schools.

Santa Clara is actually a mid-point in the South Bay, but it's not the trendiest. You should also check out apartments in the downtown San Jose area. I live in Japantown and they have a some cool, newer apartments that go for price range you are seeking $1500-1800.
