Here's an article that the local paper did about my middle daughter. She's trying to raise money and donate it to the Sarasota Humane Society. If anyone would like to chip in, I'm sure she'd greatly appreciate it-and so would the animals.

Awesome! You must be so proud of your daughter.

I was at the HSSC 2 weekends ago for their adoptathon and reveal of the new kennels...I made a donation then. But I certainly wish your daughter and her friends the very best on their endeavor.

You're definately doing something right bringing up your daughter!

Thanks Col!

It was a chore getting out of there without new pup. There are so many great dogs that need homes.

If anyone is considering adopting from a mill or breeder, please consider the shelter first

hi shannon,

good for your daughter!

suncoast is a fantastic shelter. nice clean facility with excellent staff. we adopted a dog july 2008, a female pit. best dog we have ever owned. she gets along fine with our pug and our 3 kids.

both of my boys are looking forward to volunteering at suncoast. my wife has already said "no more dogs".

they do have alot of pits, which are the most misunderstood breed. it is to bad they have gotten such a bad reputation. raise them right and they act right.

It is unfortunate that so many pits end up in the shelter. There were a lot of them up in Sarasota as well.

If everyone helps out just a little by donating, adopting or spaying/neutering it makes a big difference.

Glad you adopted a shelter dog!

Talking Great child.....

As an animal lover, I think what your daughter is doing is wonderful. When we get down there I'm hoping to get into cat/kitten-fostering. The poor animals of our society need all the help they can get.

She's a real cutie. You must be very proud.
I've often told people that one thing that disturbed me about Costa Rica was seeing all the stray dogs. Many of them were injured. The worst place was Quepos. I shared a pizza one night with a dog in downtown Quepos one night at an outside cafe. Jaco wasn't much better. The people in Costa Rica are very nice & friendly, however. I try not to judge, since there are many poor people too. There are also plenty of areas of the U.S. where it's common to see starving animals.

You've got a great girl there! Nice article!

I just donated to both the MN and WI chapters but would be happy to send one to this group too. Should I send a check (just a small one I'm afraid) to your daughter or directly to the agency?
