Sorry to say it, but that is yet another business I feel I would not frequent, again, for a number of reasons.

This thread has taken a turn, and for that, I apologize.

Costco got their permit to demolish Dillards on March 7th! And it will take about 8 months to build. Costco Warehouse Corp. to tear down Dillard's at Sarasota Square | HeraldTribune.com

I've been a member of Sam's and BJs at various times over the years but I've never been in a Costco. People seem to love them, though. Anyone care to explain the difference between Costco and the others? What makes them so much better?

IMO and how it seemed to work back in NY is that Costco was a little more high end, catered to businesses ( i think corporate account holders can enter store 1 hr earlier) they have AMAZING photo lab w/1 hr service that you can upload pix to online. BJs is where all the mommies bought bulk diapers and wipes, toys, they take coupons, etc. I would go to BJs weekly for gas, milk, eggs, OJ, some bulk food items but Costco maybe once a month. Costco is a nicer store than BJs overall. Sams seems totally bottom level to me but I never went there.

BJs has a great return policy, I don't remember how Costco's policy was. They used to have really good meat and seafood at Costco but I haven't been there in a year or more.

My mom and I used to share the 2 memberships so we could get the best of both worlds.

Costco seems to have better things/brands. Also, they have many organic options. Like peanut butter, jam, cereals, produce, etc. Sam's Club has ONE organic option.

I heard there was a snag with the Westfield group as they are also putting stores in Wheaton MD and Los Angeles. It has delayed the Sarasota store indefinitely. Go on the Wheaton MD newspaper website for details. The city board members are causing the delay.

That is a shame! Hopefully it'll be resolved & Costco will soon be there.

We were surprised at some of the great deals we've received via a Costco membership. We get better rental car rates from them than anyplace else. And there are many items that are usable for a small business - for example, when we need a credit card machine to use at an art show, we get it from Costco for much much less than any other rentals. Oh, and we also got a nice discount from California Closets via Costco.

It should be a big Plus to Sarasota.
