I think Asheville is about an 11hr drive, which is doable with 2 drivers.

I drive straight to Greenville by myself and it's about 10 hours. If my wife drove it would be about 15

When we lived in Lakeland, it was roughly a 10 hour drive or less, we went to Asheville a lot because we used to own a home there. Lakeland is just a few minutes over an hour from Sarasota, so in good weather should be no more than 11 or 11.5 hours. To me that is a day's drive. We drove I-4 to I-95, then cut over to 26 in south Carolina. Very nice drive.

I haven't been that way yet. I may have to do that this next trip.

Most of the time we take 75 to Macon, and then cut through GA on smaller highways (through Athens). Makes for a nice relaxing drive.

I want to meet your wife! I just have never met a wife that doesn't believe after working so hard, that you and she especially doesn't deserve to have a nice vacation like that! So she is extremely unique - I want to meet a one of a kind person like that!

BILTMORE in Asheville, North Carolina, Americas Largest Home and More!

My wife just stayed at the Biltmore last night, and took the tour of it today! She loved it. My daughter had a punkin souffle for breakfast. It is now officially on the gotta stop there on my next drive north list.

We've been out west a few times and seen most of Florida (including a sweltering summer visit to St. Augustine that will forever be burned into my memory!) and don't really have enough time to do justice to places outside the US. So thanks again...it is greatly appreciated!
Be sure to go to Maggie's Country Kitchen! It is right in the heart of Maggie Valley! You will not be disappointed if you love good barbecue!
We're going back just for that reason!

Cherokee is also a nice place to check out while you're there.
