I just thought with all the great ideas that were floating around, I was wondering how everyone's 4th went and what you all ended up doing?

We went to Nokomis Beach all the way to the North Jetty parking lot. We left at 4:30 and were lucky enough to find great parking. We took out our stuff even though we saw the thunderclouds coming and had just enough time to put up our umbrellas before the rain came. Stayed under the umbrella for about 15 minutes then ran for the car. Ate dinner in the car. About an hour later, rain stopped and we went back to the beach and it was wonderful.

If you haven't gone to Nokomis Beach, I highly recommend it. This was our first time and we really love it. We saw tons of wildlife by the jetty rocks. Crabs, Welks, amazing fish, and even manatee and dolphin. The fireworks were super close and really spectacular and we didn't get burned by ash like last year at Siesta, haha.

The only bummer was I forgot my camera. Grrrr.

Hope everyone's 4th was fun and safe

We went to Laishley Park in Punta Gorda. They were great fireworks but only lasted 10 minutes. In previous years I thought they lasted about 20 minutes. They were supposed to be bigger, better, and louder, but I was still disappointed in the length of time. Then I came home and saw them all over my neighborhood for about another hour.

It turns out that there was an electrical malfunction. It was in the newspaper this morning. The fireworks were supposed to last 28 minutes. The finale went off early and they just ended it. They promise the full show next year.

Sue (in Ohio) & I flew down to Tampa/drove to Sarasota on the 3rd to look at a house, then we flew back home (by way of Detroit) on the 4th.

Our weekend was a bit of a blur.

Ewwww...I don't want to be in Detroit ever, let alone on a holiday. I won't even fly through there.
Our fourth was great. It involved sitting on the deck, then boating, listening to a great live band, then dinner, then fireworks on and from the boat in the middle of the lake. We could see about 5 surrounding communities' fireworks.

We were both raised in Detroit, and met in the ninth grade, so our memories of Detroit (past & present) are clearly more pleasant than yours are.

The Detroit Airport is about forty-five (45) minutes to the north of us, and when there're no appropriate flights out of Toledo's Airport (less than ten__<10__minutes away) it's the next best thing.

We did what we had to do, when we had to do it.
