Went down to Englewood to check on the house, and had some interesting observations;

1) We adapted to the heat surprisingly quickly. Didn't overdo outdoor activities, drank plenty of fluids of the non-alcoholic variety, and took in the AC when needed.

2) Saw 2 gators up close and personal and didn't freak, but kept a respectable distance. Did NOT feed the critters. Lots of great birds and other wildlife.

3) Had the best nap of my life on the lanai.

4) Found out that we did things MUCH slower than in NH, and enjoyed it.

5) Dreading the busy season as we had easy access to parking, restaurants etc, and am afraid that we've become spoiled.

6) Prices, especially for furniture, is higher than in NH. Food, the same. Are the fruit stands better than the supermarkets? Plants and landscaping seem to be cheaper here than in NH.

7) We found that getting plumbers, electricians to come to the house was MUCH easier than in NH. Actually had a plumber come out 1 HOUR after we called him.

8) Babe's True Value in Englewood is da bomb!

9) Gonna have a hard time adjusting to seafood in FL compared to New England. Gotta try Zydeco for cajun food though -- is it good? Hope so!

10) Had a great time -- I think we'll enjoy living in SWF!

Lucky you! We're from NH and hope to relocate to Florida sooner than later. We were actually there in August too. I feel that the 90+ degrees with humidity is not ideal, but I'll take it over anything below 30 degrees any day!!

For zydeco food, try Neon Leon's Zydeco Steakhouse in Homosassa. YUM!

Great post... we've had a similar experience just moving to Venice this July from Minnesota. July & August haven't been too bad and I'm thinking it will only get better. Looking forward to my 1st winter!

Went to Siesta Key for a week to get away from the heat and humidity in philly, in the middle of August. Then went back to Philly and had an earthquake and hurricane in the same week ???

been here almost 2 years. it is hot and humid in august, no getting around it. once you get used to the fact that when you walk outside and do any more than stand there you will sweat you have it beat. i will take this over ice, snow and freezing temps any day.
