I stopped by Siesta Beach yesterday to show a co-worker the view and the sand.
We walked out to the shoreline and saw/smelled no signs.

Wonderful! I just checked that chart that someone posted a link to and it appears levels are high at Venice Beach, Service Club Park, Venice Fishing Pier. Elevated levels at Manasota and Blind Pass Park if I'm reading the chart correctly.

DOH: Red Tide Results

I don't understand how all of those can have elevated levels and Brohard Park and Caspersens doesn't? They are all so close to each other.

Yikes!! According to today's news, the red tide is heading up to Sarasota.

Red tide from Lee County heads toward Sarasota | HeraldTribune.com

"When red tide gets into the estuary, Bartleson added, it often remains and festers unless something else kills it, such as a virus.
"It's not something that's going to blow away with the currents once it's in the sound," Bartleson said."

Does this mean if it comes, it will stay for months?

I was out on the water fishing yesterday out of Charlotte Harbor and we saw evidence all over of the red tide. Dead fish all over and an indescribable stench (not just dead fish). Also odd color to the water. It was inside (inshore) as well as outside (offshore) and lots and lots of dead grouper..some up to 20 pounders. I hope this doesn't hang around too long or it could be quite damaging.

Yesterday, went 2 miles due west of Stump Pass. Many dead smaller fish and one 5 foot grouper. Air had noticeable stench. Pray that it goes away.
