Nice of the Herald Tribune to start a hurricane scare; Mother Nature seems to be pretty busy with Tornado Alley but apparently did have a relative hard at work near Myakka within the past 24.

It's in the newspaper, it must be true....I'd type more, but, I have to run to Home Depot and buy plywood to board up my windows.

I think they're just trying to tell people to be aware and take precautions. Presently there are funnel clouds possible tornado forming in the southern areas of Sarasota.

As a native Kansas Citian, I can say that I prefer Hurricanes to Tornadoes. The hurricane gives you a few days of advance warning - the tornado just shows up.

Just because we're overdue for a hurricane does not mean one will hit us. We could go another hundred years or be hit a month from now. It's random not scheduled. Forecasting has really improved, so when one is on it's way we will have lots of notice.

I guess they need to fill the paper with words.

These words are of course pointless, but they do qualify as words.

Another quick question for the Herald-Tribune: If I flip a coin nine times and nine times in a row it comes up tails, what are the odds it will come up heads on the tenth flip?

Jeez.

Hubby was told that the hurricanes are drawn to the warm water of bays and go more toward Tampa than Sarasota. Is that an old wives tale?

Hurricanes are not drawn to warm water although they do develop over warm open oceans. We don't need to worry about hurricanes here, though. I read it in the newspaper.
