We are new to the area and I am trying to determine the best school for my kids, who are in 6th and 8th grades. I recently heard about The Classical Academy and was wondering if anyone has information about this school, its philosophy, its reputation, or how things are going over there. I know it is a new school and that it tried and failed to obtain charter school status so opted to go forward as a private school. I would appreciate any insight you might have.

Having school aged kids I try to keep up with all the local public and private schools and have a handle on what's going on with them. I'll have to say that I have not heard of this school before. I did take a look at their website. They don't seem to have any religious affiliation. It looks like they do a lot of things relating to history, which is interesting. Some of the things appear to be Montessori-like. It appears that they have limited sports-basketball and soccer. I couldn't find anything about their tuition on the website.

It looks like they have a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/TCASarasota you might want to private message some of the people who are posting or "liking" that page. I'm sure they would be more than happy to share their experiences!

Thanks, SoFLGal. I am going to look into it -- I am interested in the "Great Books" philosophy of teaching. I was hoping someone on this forum had first hand knowledge of the school, but since it is small and new, that may not be the case.

I've toured it. Their philosophy aside they are basically crammed into make shift classrooms in a church right now. I know they are fund raising for a building but that's probably a while off.
