I'm considering buying in Calusa Lakes and would appreciate any feedback on the community from those familiar with the Nokomis/Sarasota area. Thank you.

I remember when it was initially developed and thought it was done well, but I imagine that there are some rather dated houses around now. the area has matured since then, but south to Nokomis is a totally different feel now. Also check the new flood maps from FEMA.

Big homes on winding streets, strict deed restrictions, check into them before you buy. There is a clubhouse with a restaurant, and not all residents have access to the community pools in Calusa, it depends on what section you buy in. You have to drive down a very long road to get to the development. Gated, but I know there have been break-ins in that area despite the gate. My MIL lives there on a pretty lot, facing the golf course and a retention pond. Isolating IMO.
