Is Venice too touristy?

but there is still construction going on there, isn't there in some spots--and maybe there was a barge going under the bridge--it does have to be raised to allow traffic under it...

No construction, that's in Laurel/Nokomis about 3 miles North and it had nothing to do with the bridge it was just backed up traffic.

Thanks for the info.

I've never been too concerned with day-to-day traffic because commuters know where they're going and though it can be slow, you don't get the interesting little tricks tourists pull. We have some of the worst traffic in the country where I live... just like any city but it's around the beaches and such where you really start seeing the problems. I won't even drive to Santa Cruz any more because the whole city becomes a massive parking lot during the summer months.
