Does anyone else think that the seating arrangement at the Van Wezel is screwy? We went to see Johnny Mathis there last night, the auditorium has no aisles. Am I missing something as to why they would design a seating arrangment like that? Everyone within hearing distance (yes, I am a ease-dropper) was complaining about how hard it was to get to their seats.

By-the-by, Johnny Mathis was "Wonderful-Wonderful".

I would imagine they built it that way for a reason; so people wouldn't be in & out of the aisles.

have never been there but what about the fire regulations--
In TX there is a "typical" egress time--
you have to theoretically be able to move so many people in so many minutes (not that a panic situation would work that way if there really was a fire or other disaster)

we were able to petition our local school board to add a teacher/classroom when our daughter was in elementary school years ago because the room she was in was overcrowded --the desks were blocking the aisles preventing kids to get out in timely manner--fire code violation--had guy who was an architect and knew the code speak at school board meeting--got their attention pretty quickly...

we also went to see Mr. Mathis when he played Bass Hall in FTW -- just a lovely man with a lovely voice even after all this time--have been to see some other older performers and think that he, James Taylor, Willie Nelson, Art Garfunkle, the Everly Brothers, Judy Collins have kept their voices and singers like George Jones and Merle Haggard, Jerry Lee Lewis have really, really shown what their hard lives have done to destroy their voices...
