Parts of Bradenton are really bad, and other parts are God's waiting room due to large number of seniors, LOL

I wouldn't do it if I were you. There would be far better places in Florida to relocate from LI.

Peaches, Bradenton is a really good place to live. West Bradenton is quite safe and also quite beautiful. It's close to the charming barrier island of Anna Maria - which has wonderful beaches and good restaurants right on the water (Gulf of Mexico,) and is a great place to meet people. You can swim, kayak, fish etc., virtually any day of the year. The Manatee River is the north border for the city. Navigating the city is relatively easy. It's small-ish, but not too small. There is a variety of housing. There is a lot of money in Bradenton, and some truly elegant houses/areas. We have a beautiful main library, right on the river. We have a farmer's market, downtown, on Saturdays (during 'season.') We have the usual festivals (DeSoto, Seafood...) We are the spring training home of the Pirates - and the spring training home of the Yankees is a 45 min. drive away, in Tampa. We are conveniently located between Tampa/St. Pete's and Sarasota - so there is easy access to the cultural activities of these areas. I think Bradenton is about the best place to live in Florida. There are a lot of young people and middle-aged, in addition to the elderly. Unfortunately, it's somewhat conservative politically, but there is a sizeable liberal element - you just have to find it. If you get involved in whatever activities interest you, you'll meet some delightful people from all over the country.
Bradenton has a lot to offer. Mother Nature has blessed it. I can't imagine why anyone with a sense of adventure and an open mind couldn't make a very satisfying life for themselves down here.
