I live on Wilmington Island and love it, love it, love it. The Kroger on WI is teeeeennnnny tiny, but I read in today's paper they are looking to enlarge it. I prefer the Publix on the Island to the one near Walmart. Not sure why.

I like Crab Shack, eaten there several times and never had a problem. Like Love's Seafood on Ogeechee too, ate there last fall on my way through town. Pearl's - now Saltwater Grille is great too, but I keep hearing about Bonna Bella Yacht club. any opinions?

I can honestly say, this was the best decision I have made in my life, to follow my dream and move to the beach.

I have been to Tybee on weekends several times, thougth I go early and leave by 12:00, a relaxing couple of hours of reading and sun and I'm ready to deal with the rest of my day. I usually go Sunday mornings park on the street parking near the north beach area - near City Hall and I've never had problems getting a space, beach is open and uncrowded ( I know I'm early). I invested in an annual parking pass and I feel I've gotten my money's worth already and it's only been a few weeks. I don't have to deal with quarters, or debit card.

I want to go to the Forsyth Farmers market one of these Saturdays, just haven't gotten there. any opinions?

Bonna Bella seems more like a place to drink than it is a place to eat, not that the food isn't okay, it's just that it is only okay.

The farmer's market has slowed down with the heat but they do still have local produce and need your support. Check it out. You can always go to the Brighter Day or have coffee and a sandwich at the Sentient Bean while you're there. It's a fun little corner of the world.

The best pizza is the one nearest your home so that you get it fresher and hotter. Savannah is so spread out that's it's hard to say what's best for you.

We need to know the best/cheapest grocery store, where to buy a couple of nice queen sized mattresses and a sofa without breaking the bank. Also, a nice gentle dentist (I'm a wimp), movie theatre, restaurant to treat the parents (as thanks for pulling the trailer) hopefully some good "southern comfort" food (I know not to even try Paula Dean's)....

AND is it safe to go the beach yet on Tybee? Have all the thousands of tourists left? We tried to time our move so that after a long, hard day of moving we could relax on the beach (hopefully with a nice cold beer or soda).

Any other advice is greatly appreciated... So much to do!!!
All I can say is I hate you...It kills me everytime I see someone else posting on here that they are moving to Savannah...DAMNIT when will I finally get to post that? j/k

Anyway, Tybee isn't that bad. Yeah it gets crowded but its still very easy to navigate pretty much anytime of the year. Really just during the big festivals like the Pirate Fest, the 4th, and when they did that god-foresaken black college party thing, I've never seen it really so packed you can't enjoy an afternoon there. Just a few tips that will help you easily avoid the little bit of congestion they do have, go on a weekday, the further away from the pier the less crowded, go early morning or early evening. Even during summer its still very easy to find a nice quiet spot on the beach all to yourself to enjoy a few cold ones while watching the beautiful waves.

Blowin' Smoke is a great restaurant, down home BBQ type. The Olde Pink House, but its a little more pricey and fancy. On Tybee, I would highly recommend Burtons by the Sea, its not an actual restuarant, but like an ice cream stand, but they have outdoor seating and the food AND ice cream are out of this world!

Good luck with your move, I'm very jealous

Where did you move from? Did you go there with a job prior? Just curious...

I would agree Crab Shack might be a good place, especially if you are taking some people from out of town, its a very gimmicky, tourist trap type place, so it's great for taking visiting relatives, kids, etc. But beyond that the place is horrible. WAAAYYY overpriced, miniscule portions, food isn't good, and horrible service at best. JMO...If you go on Sunday, definately try Fannies brunch.

The best pizza around there is on Tybee, Pizza on Wheels. Outside of Chicago, one of my top 3 favorite pizzas.

I lived in Atlanta for many years, so Savannah was always a weekend getaway. I had been living in Charlotte for the last 7-1/2 years, was laid off in April, started looking for a new job - from Charleston to Jacksonville. Happened to see this position at savannahhelpwanted.com and sent in my resume. about 7-8 days later got a call for an interview....got here as quickly as possible and interviewed. about 2 weeks later got a call for a second interview. got the offer, leased my apartment and moved 10 days later......
