I have started a gut renovation on a very small two story house on Haberstam. All we've down so far is strip it down to the studs and put some ideas in place as to layout, number of bedrooms, etc.that work for a rental market.

Although the project is fairly cut and dry as to what can be done I still need some architectual and desgin work to be done. Of course, I don't have a trillion dollar budget but am willing to spend a modest amount of money for the assistance. I was thinking of reaching out to SCAD, maybe a current senior that would be interested in some part time work for the next 2-3 months.

Is this a good idea? Should I go to the school and speak to the administration? Should I post flyers or a spot on Craigs List? Or, is this a dumb idea?

I welcome your thoughts.

I think it's a super idea. I would discuss it with the appropriate instructors and see what they say. All they can say is no.
Wouldn't it be a great class project, and what if you could get 20 different ideas and approaches?
If that doesn't work then probably a post on the right bulletin board or a SCAD newspaper (I don't know if there is one) might work. I'm leary of Craig's list...too many weird people.

Or you could ask interior design students for their input. Since your house is already built, the people helping you will actually be reconfiguring the inside. I'm sure you're smart enough to know, but some people don't realize there's a difference in focus between one and the other.

The SCAD Atlanta campus took on the old Peters house (Ivy Hall) on Ponce de Leon Avenue as a project. They did a splendid job.

Thanks Ellie--I thought of that approach at first but then you run into some other problems like: I now have an exterior staircase that goes to the second floor. I want it plaaced inside the house. Another problems are electrical issues, plumbing issues and on and on.

I'll keep you guys posted. I have a meeting with the building dept. on Tues of next week and will have made more progess in the next few weeks.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner.I had a meeting with the building dept. and gave them the idea I had it mind. They strongly advised not to do it becuase of permitting issues and arch. working w/o a license.

I am using a SCAD student for interior design help on the project which will work out fine.
