I know you have heard that old saying that "push got to shove"? Well, we have just about reached it. It's decision time.

Soooo, does anyone have any experience about assisted living homes in the Savannah Area? I can't manage without both hands on my walker (balance problems) so husband (bless him, a thousand times) has to tend to the housework, cooking, groceries, etc. And, frankly, he's getting too old to drive. And he isn't fond of the shopping and cooking. I don't blame him!

Two of our boys live here, but neither of us want to move in with either of them and their families. We have had no experience with an assistant living and don't know what to expect. We are both in good health except for my balance problems.

Any information, good or bad about anywhere would be appreciated.
Thanks!!!!

The one at the Landings is supposed to be pretty good, but I imagine it's not cheap.

The Buckingham is also supposed to be nice. A lot of Jewish people live there, so I imagine you'd be intellectually engaged, if a bit befuddled, if you're not already part of their community.

Those are the only two I have direct info on.

I googled around and saw that there's a Magnolia Manor in Richmond Hill. The one in Americus is good. Maybe this one is, too.

You might have to call as many as possible and arrange for tours.

Savannah Square (the place on Montgomery Crossroad near Abercorn) has many different "categories" of assisted living. I think they can accommodate people with many different levels of mobility, and they have buses to take residents around to different places around town. I went to Church with Dr. Martha Fay (who lived there in the final years of her life) and she said it was very well-run; she knew an efficient operation when she saw it.

Mrs P.

I was very pleased with my mom's stay ( about two years) at NHC in Bluffton. I see on their website they have a Ga location but with Bluffton only 20 miles away it worked for me.

If I can be of further assistance please contact me. I'm out of the country now but will return to Savannah the end of Feb. and would glad to go there with you for a tour if that would help.

I had not thought about going out to Richmond Hill or Bluffton. But that's an idea that's worth looking into.

Thanks!!
