Big crowd challenges, supports Buddy Carter at Savannah town hall | SavannahNow

Basically told the audience what he believed in and said I don't care what the people in my district want. Guess we'll find out at the polls in 21 months.

Probably not. Pretty unlikely with the gerrymandering.

FROM CONNECT SAVANNAH STORY BY JIM MOREKIS ...

But perhaps the most intriguing interaction came when Father Michael Kavanaugh, pastor of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, addressed the congressman.

“First, I have to say I’ve also studied the Scriptures a great deal,” Fr. Kavanaugh said to audience laughter. It was a pointed jab at Carter’s repeated religious references, which at one point included urging teaching the Bible in public schools.

“And there’s no part of the Scriptures that says we must support a government we have serious disagreements with,” Kavanaugh said.

The crowd stood to their feet, cheering and clapping for a prolonged period. Carter simply looked on from the stage, slowly shaking his head in amazement.

He's a nice sincere man, and he keeps getting elected by the old guard. I'm a conservative, but he's way right of me. He has probably peaked. It's not nice of me to say this, but his corn pone GA accent makes him sound ignorant to me.

News - that sounds like the uniqueness about this town I like.. Cool! I wish I could go but of course he holds it during working hours. DarkKnight yes gerrymandering is nasty and quite intentional. It shouldn't be a 'thing' but then again the people that write the laws draw the districts.

Moreover, should our representative who gets a voice and, ultimately, a vote, on the future of our health care system be a pharmacy owner with obvious conflicts of interest?
