I am living in St Paul, MN and am thinking about moving. I am 25 and my boyfriend is 28. We would just like to have some nicer temps year round, it is just too cold here! I have done some online research and Savannah GA seems beautiful and affordable. Just looking for any and all comments anyone has for me! We are ready for a change! Thanks!!!

I think it would be wise to visit Savannah. From March to mid April is a good time. Jacket weather. It begins to get warm rather quickly by the end of May and becomes uncomfortably hot during July and August.

I guess I wasn't very specific was I? My boyfrined and I will be renting. We will be bringing our cat with us so that could limit our options a little. We dont really have a preference on a house or an apt. We would like to live in an area that has quick access to restaurants, bars, shopping, grocery stores, etc. Looking for affordable but nothing too cheap, like in a bad neighborhood. Also curious about general entertainment, like bowling alleys, movie theaters, etc. We both like to go to casinos and he plays a lot of poker so wondering if there are casinos near-by too. In the job dept I am currently working for the County and would like to stay in that field of work if possible. He does anything really, general labor, cooks, has office experience also. I hope this is a little more explanatory! But basically just want to make sure it is a good place for mid 20's people to make a home. THANKS in advance!

It might be a good place for you but Savannah is family-oriented. The historical district is a major attraction for tourists so there are many restaurants and places to shop. No casinos--you might find a charter tour that offered that sort of entertainment.

Gulfstream/aviation, International Paper and several other manufacturers have facilities in the Savannah area. I would not move without a secure job.

There are two malls on the 'Southside' of Savannah--lots of people live there. People moved away from the city in that direction in the 60's. The west side of Savannah is growing--Pooler, Garden City and beyond. There should certainly be plenty of housing choices, restaurants and etc in this area

HTH.

There would be more employment opportunities and more for 20 somethings to do in the metro Atlanta area, which is five hours from Savannah. Similar climate--without the proximity to the ocean.

Gambling is illegal in Georgia, so that just about rules out any casino or poker for money activity. There is a cruise ship that goes out beyond the three mile limit in the ocean, but that's no fun if the weather is even a little rough. Not to mention the time it takes to get out there and back.

You need to visit in July and August for about a week and see how you like our humidity. 90 to 100 percent most days. We live in air conditioning if we can.

Default Tampa, FL

has a casino and a race track with other gaming.
The casino is the Hard Rock run by the Seminoles. The relatively new governor is ope to more liberal gaming so we may get more Vegas type games. The track I think has a poker room. Look for Tampa Bay Downs online. The season is now thru May for live racing. There are also gambling cruises that leave every night for a few hours from the beaches.

The casino is not near other entertainment but is easily accessible. It is part of a hotel complex. I haven't seen too many bowling alleys around but I'm sure they exist. It's just not my thing. Good entertainment for young folks is SoHo or Hyde Park in Tampa which are very nice neighborhoods and if you are into partying hearty, Ybor, another neighborhood.
Downtown St. Pete is also cool, closer to the beaches and has shopping and movies.

quite expensive in some areas. check realtor.com and go to savannah area etc.....around savannah is rincon, pooler, guyton, richmond hill. all on the more expensive side but nice area. if you like the area, go there and stay awhile week or two and look around. get a map and study area. good place to stay is at I-95 and hiway 204. exit 94 i think. plenty resteruants. look up savannah on line if you cannot just visit there.

Housing costs vary according to the closeness to the water or Downtown
Waterfront is expensive, across the street is less, and two blocks away is considered to be a slum.

New homes on the Westside start at $130,000 and go to about $500,000

ok so now that i have a few responses and have been doing more research it seems that maybe directly in savannah maybe isnt the best spot, so now i am looking into pooler which i hear is only about 20 minutes away. would love to hear some opinions on this... better job market? more affordable housing? lower crime rates? i even have been looking up specific rentals and maybe would like some input if they are in good or bad places(i have addresses). thanks again to everyone who has shared, i appreciate it!
