Good to see CAT is looking at service to Effingham.

“What’s driving this system redesign is we had an origin and destination study done a while ago and the data shows the focal point of everyone’s destination is not downtown, it’s really midtown,” Koleber said.


“We need to align our routes to where people are actually traveling. And the routes that are on the peripheral part of our system, instead of having those become regular routes, we want those to become feeder routes to the main core.”

Rather than have passengers take a bus to the main core as is done today, Koleber said, CAT is examining a type of software that would allow them to request a ride on demand to new routes. He said in this way CAT is more reliable and service is generally faster than it’s been in the past.

Meanwhile, CAT is in talks with officials in Effingham County about developing a Park-N-Ride facility to cut back on the volume of traffic entering Chatham County each day. Koleber said more than 30,000

Yes, this is great. Park & Ride is a massive economic boost to surrounding businesses and housing and relieves car traffic which saves money overall as mass transit is cheaper than car traffic per mile. Would be nice to see a Park & Ride or two in the county also. Maybe at 95-204, or 16/95 or along 17. Perhaps they could co-locate with a shopping center parking lot.

Massive economic boost? Have you used Park & Ride here? If so, you'd know there's already a Park & Ride lot at 95 & 204...and it isn't near to capacity. Economic impact? About zero.

CAT is on a fishing expedition to levy more taxes against homeowners who most likely will never use the service, as fares alone cannot keep CAT afloat. There is a reason CAT runs empty buses to the Islands....
