My husband and I are looking to relocate around this time next year. We are thinking Wilmington Island will probably be a good fit for us. Our biggest concern is meeting new people. We have visited the city many times and find that most people are very polite. Are most people friendly to northern transplants?

Yes they are. You will find there are quite a few transplants in the area. The large military bases, SCAD and the coastal location brings quite a few from other areas. You should have no problems. Make sure and visit at different times to be sure the islands are the best for you and any commutes you will have.

What will your living situation be when you move there? My (then) newlywed nephew and his wife moved into an apartment complex on Wilmington Island and almost immediately made friends. They are still friends many years later. It's a very warm and welcoming community.

We relocated from the DC area almost a year ago. I've found most folks are friendly. If you haven't done this in any past trips, I would encourage you to come down to get a first hand look at areas/neighborhoods you're thinking of living. We would find something we loved online and then tour it and go uhhhhh, no thanks! It was a major help for us, along with having a great realtor and we ended up in a fantastic neighborhood we love.

Good luck!
