My husband and I are considering moving to Swainsboro but need to know more about it. We are in our 40's and just looking for a nice, safe environment, and friendly people. We are tired of the big city and costs of living !! Can anybody give us some feedback ?
Please help. Thanks.

Perhaps if you told us what caused to to pick Swainsboro, we might be able to help.
Do you know people there? Job transfer?

Swainsboro is a nice, quiet town in a rural county. It holds the distinction of having two coast-to-coast US highways intersect in its downtown (US 80 and US 1). Their slogan is "Where Main Streets Meet".

I had the pleasure of spending a week at a little inn there during a hurricane evacuation in 1999 and found Swainsboro to be a very nice, clean little town. The people were all very friendly and several we met at the WalMart offered to put us up at their homes (for free) when they spotted out Chatham County car tag.

At that time, the whole county had a population of about 12,000 and the local newspaper was a weekly. The issue I picked up was mostly devoted to the local high school sports, 4-H stuff, and weddings & engagements. There was so much naming of names and such in all of the articles and descriptions that after reading the paper, you felt like you knew everybody.

To me, Swainsboro was a place where you felt like you knew everybody and you'd be OK with leaving your doors unlocked. I don't know what there is locally for employment but that wouldn't matter to me since I'm retired.

Hope this info is helpful to you. You can visit the city's website at: City of Swainsboro Georgia USA
