Can you be more specific about what gay-specific advice you are looking for? We have very smart people on this forum board and I'm sure they have a greater in-sight to what ever your question is than Professor Google. We might be a small town but we pack a hell of a wallop.

Meet-up com. might be of help. Everything is going the way of the Internet to meet people, and Gay bars aren't even needed anymore, small wonder they're closing all the across the country. I'm Gay and I haven't been to a Gay bar in 20 years.

I wouldn't be looking to the Islands. Solid red territory. Downtown or midtown may be more to your liking.

Adamson520 - We lived in Tucson from '85 to '98. I try to just remember the things I liked about it, but the negatives always seem to overpower that. That attitude of "Don't expect too much" is so true, and sad. I don't know where you have ever lived before, but if you are considering adapting to humidity you'd better be really ready if you are thinking about Savannah. That can be very extreme. I am totally straight, but if I can say this in a non-offensive way, I seem to set off Gaydar with guys all of the time. Because of that I get in interesting conversations everywhere I go; my wife teases me and we often laugh about it. I am wondering if you have looked into the Asheville, NC area. Beautiful, fairly progressive, and gay friendly. I got the full scoop on it in a conversation with a shop owner near there in Hendersonville. When we left, my wife said the only reason he didn't invite me over that night was because he didn't think she would agree to it. I'm used to it and it doesn't bother me in the least.

Your question just made my day. I love when people have such a positive outlook on life.

Remember: suburbs tend to equal red. Wilmington Island is no different.

I'd consider areas downtown or immediately south of there. Vibrant and more gay friendly than the burbs.

I had a co-worker in AZ (originally from the Savannah-Charleston region) who offered to help me job-wise if I managed to find a way to relocate there, but she took off from our toxic office environment, and disappeared.

Then, I left that bad job situation as well last October, moved home to PDX, and promptly became unemployed the minute the coronavirus started hitting in March.

Now, there are millions of fellow unemployed and no compelling reason for an employer across the country to hire someone so far away when there are probably hundreds of applicants right there banging on the front door.

(...if that wasn't enough dreck and drama, Bobby Deen had twins, which eliminated my last hope he'd come to his senses, ditch the wife, change teams, and invite me to Savannah.)

[Yeah yeah... TMI.]
