Interesting. I take it the gal was a skeptic.

I can make water in my kitchen sink drain whichever way, depending on which side of the drain I have the water running.

Coriolis forces do not apply in small scales. Details of the container and initial conditions dominate. Drains swirl in whatever direction they are started.
