I saw one back in the 90's, I was on a canoe trip and we didn't know what it was until a few days later when we got back to civilization. That one actually made the national news, if I recall it hit a trailer. It was late August in the Northeast US particularly northern PA and NY around 1995. It was pretty far from us so it was just over the horizon for some time and then disappeared behind the trees, it was at night so you couldn't see any smoke trail. Other than that it was pretty similar to that video, it started out like speck and got really bright and then kind of died out as it went under the tree line. We weren't sure if it was a plane or what the hell it was until we got back.

It was a "did you just see what I saw" moment, my one buddy goes "That's enough drinking for me" LOL.

FYI there was no sonic boom or any sound on the one I saw but it was probably 100 miles away at least.

No. From an article and comment I read on the news story about this:

Quote:
For another, from the lighting, time of day, and videos showing the rising Sun, it looks like this was moving mostly east-to-west. I may be off, but that’s how it looks. DA14 is approaching Earth from the south, so any fragment of that rock would also appear to move south-to-north.

What a magnificent BEAST of a meteor indeed! Wow, just.....WOW!!!!!

I agree with your assessment that it is not a fragment from a potential stream of fragments in the 2012 DA14 orbit.

Apart from your correct argument that the entry direction of the bolide is wrong, there is also the simple fact that fragments in 2012 DA14-like orbits can never enter the atmosphere at 55 N (Chelyabinsk). The theoretical radiant of fragments in the 2012 DA14 orbit is at declination -81 degrees. Even taking gravitational perturbation by earth into account, 55 N is too far north: it represents the "backside" of earth as seen from the direction of any 2012 DA14 fragments.

The shockwave hits at the 7:00 mark. From many of the videos it doesn't look like the broke up that high from the ground, but judging by the delay of the sound, that had to had been a few miles up.

This reminds me of that recent meteor caught on camera in Canada. But this one has far more video evidence from a seemingly large/populated area. The meteor also seems a little bigger. Pretty exciting and scary at the same time.

High quality video. You can see the smoke trail rolling in the atmosphere, great sound as well
