How I am understanding it: If someone cancels DirecTV, it's just $20.00 per month of whatever is left in the contract.
So basically, if someone has 3 months left on it, they only owe $60.00?
I thought it was a flat rate of $400 or something, whether you have 22 months left or 2 months left.
So... your next bill they'll prorate the cost of your TV package plus that first cancellation fee. (So a $150 rate will become $170 that month.) And then they'll just keep charging you $20 for the remaining months in the contract?
It may depend on your contract. I'm so far beyond my initial 2 year contract I could cancel at any time. The biggest hassle would be returning the DVR's.

Why would anyone cancel a contract with 2 months left if the cancellation fee is $400 but the monthly fee only $20 for a total of $40 remaining to pay?
