I've had 2 HP printers in past years which were well made and worked fine, but when going to a 64 bit computer caused me to buy a new printer I bought one HP said was a regular $100 model on sale for $49. It is a rickity piece of junk and I wish I'd never bought it. One reason I bought it at Walmart is the ease with which it can be returned, so I suppose that's what I'll do. It's just such a pain to pack it up and take it back. I dread having to deal with buying another printer. It all makes for aggravations.

For what it is worth, we used to buy HP printers, every 3-4 years or so.
For some reason they just give up.
Now we have a Canon MG 8220, which does everything we want it to do
including printing on a CD or DVD. One of those things we also do ...
Made the decision after we found out that Costco also refills Canon cartridges !
We still think it does better than HP -- pure a personal opinion !
But ... , the sales person who helped us, did say one thing ...
Keep the bugger plugged in and *ON* !!!
Do not ever turn it off !
That printer is going on at a bit over 3 years now.
Still runs and does what it is supposed to do.
BTW, it is on the net and, so no spaghetti wiring !!!
Also Bluetooth capable.
We run a 32 AND a 64 bit machine with it !
What models were the printers that didn't work with 64 bit? I ask because we have an HP LaserJet 1200 series (really, really, old) and it works with 64 bit Windows. Takes a side trip during install, but it works.

I'm sure a lot less engineering goes into a $100 printer versus a $500 printer.
