I'm currently a 20-year-old college student transferring to Seattle to finish up my last few years of college, and am having trouble finding places to rent. I have done my research but most places seem to have a lot of crime around, or the apartments have poor management and noisy tenants. Since I don't have a car and will have to walk around and use public transportation, I'd prefer living in a safe area (I don't plan on staying out late at night often but in case I do, I want to know it's safe to walk around).

Anybody know any places to recommend? My monthly budget is up to $1,500 a month (I'm willing to pay up to $1,700 though); I also have two pets (a dog and cat). I don't care too much if it's a studio or one bedroom as long as it's spacious though I would prefer the latter. If anyone could give some suggestions or help I'd greatly appreciate it!

why not look for a place near wherever you are going to school?

university district? capitol hill? both are probably decent for you but hard to say without knowing where you will be attending classes, going to work, etc. otherwise queen anne is also nice.

Is there a lot of nearby places within walking distance in the University District? And I'll be going to UW, if that helps.
