That's full on grunge history, I had many a bite to eat there after shows at the Croc (Crocodile Cafe). Oh "progress", you are painful.

I for one will miss Mama's far less than I miss Beso del Sol in Wallingford, or the long-gone and much lamented El Cafe on Roosevelt. (Note to file, don't forget to send in your employees' withholding tax to the feds.)

El Cafe had fantastic food. It was not originally called El Cafe, it was changed by the owners becasue the name was not pronouncable, or spellable. It was Cafe Popocatepatl. It was so good.
Mama? Great ambience, sure. But the food? Meh.

I don't know Ira, Mama's tasted pretty delish after 4 or 5........sets of music . And the occasional sightings of grunge royalty made it worth staying up late.

I read about this and it made me very, very sad. I drank my first legal margarita there back in 1987. My husband of 20 years and I went there on one of our first dates. One less reason to go back and visit Seattle.

I get it's been there forever but the food...yipes. If not for the kitsch it would have been gone long ago.

I'd be the first to admit that the food at Mama's wasn't nuanced or terribly authentic. That being said, their margaritas
were top notch, chips and salsa very good. Besides, who can argue with an Elvis burrito? That's a whole lot of happiness on a plate.

Terrible Mexican food. I went there after moving to Seattle and was horribly disappointed.
