My husband and I are trading in the Palouse for Western WA to move closer to family. We plan to move in about a year and we're taking a trip at the end of the month to scout out different cities on the west side to move to. I work in the medical field and my husband works in customer service, so we feel pretty confident that we could find a job in most cities. North end of Tacoma may have what you're looking for. North of 6th avenue .Neighborhoods are 6th ave/UPS (where I live), N Slope Historic District, Stadium, Old Town, and Proctor. Still beautiful homes in your price range. These neighborhoods have top rated schools.
