I have question for new Seattle citizens that have come from Midwestern or Southern states and transfered their children to new schools. Is Seattle schools teaching at the same level or are they more advanced? Have your children had any problems adjusting to the new school and teaching systems? If I move, I'll be bringing a 2nd grader and a 5th grader with me.

When we moved our then 1st grader, to a southern state (Texas), from Seattle - he was behind the kids in his class, specifically in math. We were able to catch him up of course, but they were moving at a far more advanced and fast pace than his 1st grade class in the seattle area was.

There is another person on the Austin forum that recently made the move from Seattle to Austin, who has said the same thing.

We are from California

I have a first grader, but he has Asperger's Syndrome which kind of makes him intuitively smart. So he's WAY ahead of the curve here. He's been put in all the advance math, reading and honors programs.

My opinion is the Seattl School district is lacking in education and resources. And the Eastside (Redmond, Bellevue etc) all are way ahead of the game.

I still feel as though my son has a better education than California though
