Hi there,

I'll be working in downtown Seattle for the summer. I have visited Seattle once, so I hardly know the area. I'll be there for 11ish weeks, and was looking for pointers on where to live. Preferably, I'd like to spend <1000 for rent. I am willing to commute at most an hour each way. I don't have a car, so I'm willing to bike, take the light rail, or even a ferry...

Speaking of ferry's -- anyone recommend living on one of the islands off the puget sound for 10 weeks? I just need a room and bathroom, so I don't need a 1 bedroom apartment (willing to rent out a room in a 2 or 3 bed apartment). Any advice will do -- thanks in advance!

I wouldn't do an island if you're here for an internship.

Do you want an apartment or are you willing to rent a room?

Do you want a young urban scene, or do you want something quiet and quirky? Artsy?

I would prefer to rent a room cause its cheaper... really trying to save money. I would appreciate something quiet. Also it would be great if the place is furnished (I'm trying to join the udub housing facebook page), but other than the udub area... any good areas?

Look into either an Apodment (micro studio), or a roomshare - A room will most likely be cheaper, especially if it's in a house.

By quiet, do you mean in a less busy neighborhood? Or just not on a busy/loud street? If the latter, you might find some stuff around east Capitol Hill (15th st and east). It's bit quieter than the heart of Capitol Hill, but still offers easy access to downtown, and has plenty of action/stuff to do nearby if you desire that.

If you desire a quieter neighborhood, then (aside from U-District), look into Ravenna, Central District, or Columbia City. All (except Ravenna, for now at least) will offer good access to the light rail line/downtown, making for an easy commute.

Look at a sublet or temporary apartment/room - usually quite a few are available over the summer, with many college students gone over the summer:

Start looking in the U District/Roosevelt/Ravenna/Bryant area, which will give you an easy commute to Downtown (via light rail or bus), as well as good transit connections to Capitol Hill, Wallingford, Fremont, Ballard, Green Lake, Lake Union, Lake Washington, and Bellevue.
