I live in downtown seattle and my credit sucks. it's doable if you have a lot of money for an increased deposit.

as far as checking out apartments - best advice i can give you is to just go out on foot and look around. avoid looking online - most of those places are ran by property management companies and you probably dont have a chance in hell unless you want to pay first month + last months rent + a HUGE deposit.
last time i rented from property management company i paid nearly $4000 grand to move in - no joke.

but if you can find a place thats ran by an individual - like, a real human being - im sure they will work with you.

I would encourage you to look for people who are renting and not management/corporate complexes. They will probably not have a problem, maybe if you pay a couple months in advance to show your commitment...
