So we're going to have thousands of idling vehicles lining up for hockey games, Along with the need to freeze a skating rink in Seattle, with its avg. annual temp. of 51 degrees F? And this is "Climate pledge???" What a joke.

Please don't try to tell me that the stadium was privately funded. It was not as much of a boondoggle as previous stadium ventures, which came to be rejected by voters. That's why the Sonics left--no political support. But the "Climate Pledge" arena got plenty of back-door taxpayer funding.

That's why they hired a former city councilman to lobby for them. No doubt they will be seeking additional taxpayer dollars in the future, as the Mariners did with their $135 million jackpot back in 2018.

The 'Kraken' will bring another generation of CTE sufferers for Seattle hospitals and doctors to handle.

Great, just great. We had Richard Sherman wrecking his SUV, various Seahawks beating their wives and so forth, after getting their brains beaten out on the field. Now we've got a whole new opportunity opened up.

What a joke.

I mean it's just a few blocks from me, so I'll be walking to any games I attend.

I don't like the arena's terrible name, or Jeff Bezos and his beyond absurd wealth and questionable treatment of employees, but other than that, the whole Kraken thing seems pretty exciting to me.

Not sure what "Richard Sherman wrecking his SUV, various Seahawks beating their wives and so forth" have to do with the fun of fans enjoying hockey and concerts in a nice new arena that many of us urbanites can walk to and enjoy. If you want to do something about climate change, sell your damn fossil fuel car. Take the light rail.

Nice rant bro, did you hit the doob before you went off the rails this time, or is this the result of previous study?

Well I asked some Seahawks fans about Richard Sherman earlier this year. Here was a guy who was 33 years old, a Stanford grad, articulate, and known for extensive charity activities. At age 33 he goes off the deep end on a drinking binge, wrecking his Mercedes and threatening his in-laws. It seems to be generally accepted that this was the result of CTE from playing football. What's your explanation?

Now we promote more CTE with the introduction of the NHL

Todd Ewen, a former professional hockey player, took his own life in September 2015 in the basement of his St. Louis home. Ewen had been suffering from depression and memory loss since his retirement from the NHL, in 1998. Before his death, he confided in his wife, Kelli, that he feared he may have chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE—a neurodegenerative disease that most experts agree is linked to repetitive head trauma.

No 'doob' here. Sounds like a case of projection.

Can you respond to any of the points?

Honestly ... no, I can't. I can barely understand what you wrote in the first place.

I totally agree that the concussions and brain damage aspect is disturbing about football, and I feel ethically conflicted every time I watch or follow the sport.

I guess ice hockey is similarly brutal and barbaric like that, I'm honestly not sure. My previous home Atlanta lost its second NHL team in 2011, and I never got around to going to a game while they were playing. And I guess this is the first NHL team in Seattle in forever. I've been to a few various minor league hockey games, but still haven't been to an NHL game. It's cool to have a brand new local franchise I can cheer for and follow now.

Given the poster's right wing political affiliation, I don't think he cares about any of these issues. I think he's just been triggered by the name.

You think wrong. I opposed the tax-funded KeyArena for the NBA Sonics back in 1995. I voted against the tax-funded Mariners stadium, which lost but was rammed through anyway (to a large extent by Republicans in the state legislature). I opposed the tax-funded Seahawks stadium, a $1 billion taxpayer gift to the world's 6th richest man.

None of them had ridiculous names like 'Climate Pledge.' Check your mental telepathy methods. Your mind-reading skills are failing you.
