Thanks for that! I've been thinking about that too. A longer commute has its negative side. Yes, there are some absolutely beautiful areas right near GRCC, I should just stick with that! Thanks so much for your input.

Maple Valley doesn't really have a downtown in the way that Auburn, Kent, Renton, Black Diamond, etc. do...It's more like a series of strip malls. It wasn't that long ago that Maple Valley had a very rural character, and it still has a lot of natural beauty, and great walks along the Cedar River and Lake Wildnerness, and Maple Valley has a good school district, but over the last few years it's grown a lot, with lots of newer, fancier strip malls and lots of new big houses. If you're looking for hip, fun and walkable, you're much better off in North Tacoma ( Proctor, Ruston-Pt. Defiance, Old Town)...and getting from Auburn to North Tacoma is a lot easier trafficwise than getting from Auburn to Seattle, and you can take the back roads and avoid freeways if you need to.
Maple Valley does have a good place for burgers( The Testy Chef Cafe), and Black Diamond has a bakery that's been around for 100 years and has amongst the best pies in the universe. I don't know if Black Diamond is in the Tahoma ( Maple Valley) school district, but if it is it's probably worthy of consideration.
