No comment from Gov Dimslee on missing out on the 7% of Bezos’ capital gains that he is likely to start realizing very soon.

Yep, we're a dump. No reason to move here. Nope, none at all.

Hasn't Washington been collecting that on the tens of billions in capital gains Bezos has had in the past?

I would tend to believe that Bezos really does want to be closer to his parents and go back 'home', where he went to High School. Florida weather is better too.

Bezos' dad worked for Exxon, and there used to be a decent sized Exxon office in Coral Gables.

Billionaires voting with their feet. "I want to be near family". In a pig's eye. He never wanted to be near family before Seattle went to hell in a handbasket.

I don't blame him. He has the money to move to a no income tax red state. He is not stupid. A hypocrite, but not stupid.

Yes, it seems perfectly reasonable to me, for all these reasons (maybe not the weather - I'd take Seattle over FL), along with the others he mentioned. Why must this be about politics? It doesn't seem like he has much reason to stay in Seattle, and he has multiple reasons to leave.

However, the hazard and building insurance are high in Florida. But I doubt that he would ever buy that insurance. He has a jet and can go when and where he wants. Good for him.

Bezos isn't fleeing Seattle. He doesn't live in Seattle.

He's fleeing that "dump" known as Medina where the average household income is $380,000 and the median home costs $4.2 million.

He is moving to Indian Creek Florida (AKA "Billionaire's Bunker" which is an exclusive gated island off Miami Beach where he recently bought 2 mansions for $68 million and $79 million each and where he will be next door neighbors with Jared and Ivanka Trump and Tom Brady. A place that will be 10 ft underwater and demolished the next time a Cat 5 hurricane strikes south Florida. And will be untenable in a few decades due to climate change driven sea level rise.

Forgive me if I don't care in the slightest.

He is moving from here...

to here....

Agreed, who cares. If you're a billionaire and don't want to live in a certain state, more power to you. You have the same right to move around as I do. In the meantime, let's tax the capital gains of the people that live here just like we tax MY earned income.

The people who simp for billionaires to pay no taxes on the money that comes into their coffers are stupid and pathetic.

For someone like Bezos who is constantly traveling and can spends months in Florida (in addition to spending weeks to months in his other mansions and pads in the U.S. and overseas) without actually becoming a resident of the state, the wanting to be closer to his parents is a rather convenient answer that, from my perspective, doesn't come close to passing the smell test.

But, then again, noting that he's changing residency for tax purposes wouldn't exactly be the smart thing to say from a PR perspective either.

Being closer to his parents, etc., didn't necessitate becoming a FL resident. I'm reading in between the lines here.
