No one has mentioned Alki yet. That's a close beach!

I think the biggest safety concern about swimming in Washington is hypothermia.....

And Alki has sand and something of a California look on a sunny day. Until you dip your toes in the water.

How many people would have to crap in the lake to raise the levels so significantly so quickly?!?! That's crazy given the numbers around it before and after being so low. Weird??

Could have come from the rivers or streams feeding it and I imagine it's not people crap but that from geese and other animals.

Yes, fecal coliform levels in lakes are almost always bird-derived. That spike seems to say "migration route bathroom break"

Absolutely right. I was involved with the effort to have a tiny amount of Magnuson's Park lakefront allowable for dogs to swim there, and some of the opponents were trying to assert that dog poop contributed to fecal coliform increases..Turned out that all the evidence pointed to bird migration route bathroom break, and those dogs surveyed reported that they greatly preferred pooping in the next door neighbors yard than in the lake.

I am considering a move out there from the east coast as well. My husband is actually out there interviewing Monday for a job in Bellevue. We live in DC now and I am curious to hear from anyone who has moved cross country and whether it was a good move. I am sure people get this question all the time, but my only concern is the weather. Neither my husband and I grew up in sunny Florida (he is from NY and I am from MI), but I am curious how much of an adjustment the grey weather really is. Any help is appreciated. Also, since we both are attracted to the lakes, I am curious if we plan to live in Redmond, Kirkland, or Issaquah, if it is feasable to own a boat and get good use out of it. How many months are actually good for boating? Thanks for any help!
