I am divorced and I have a great job as a counselor in a large university. My daughter is married and lives in Seattle. She is starting a family and I don't want to be a long distance grandmother. I will need to find a good job, and sell my house. I have a masters in social work and extensive experience. I welcome feedback and the options in Seattle. Currently I work with students who have psychological disabilities by providing supportive counseling, and determining disability accommodations. I also have experience with crisis intervention, inpatient, clinics etc. I am looking for a salary that is over 70,000 or better. I would love to hear from others who relocated or work in my field.

Thank you

Default near a hospital or college

If want to work at:

University of Washington: then I'd look for places to live in Wallingford, Green Lake, Ravenna, or Laurelhurst

Seattle Central Community College, Seattle University, or a hospital on First Hill: check out Mt. Baker, Leschi, Madrona

Capitol Hill, Montlake, Washington Park, Madison Park are in between the two areas for work and close to both. They're also the most likely to remind you of the Northeast.

Thank you T Hopkins for you reply. I was looking on Amazon for books on Seattle neighborhoods but the latest was published in 2007. Are you also from the Northeast?

Good luck! Best thing I ever did was leave Long Island eight years ago. You'll love Seattle. I don't remember finding a good bagel when I lived there, but Piecora's pizza in Capitol Hill is pretty close to the real thing.

Bagel Oasis has pretty good bagels. It is or was owned by a New Yorker. I asked my cousin, who owned a bagel bakery in NYC, why the bagels were so much better in New York, that I'd heard it had something to do with the water. He affirmed that yes, it's the dead bodies floating in the East River that give New York bagels that unique taste.
