Also, many direct suppliers (THRIVE, Honeyville, Rainy Day, etc) are running their fall clearance sales at this time as well... for those who prefer to purchase individual ingredients rather than pre-processed meals.
Does anyone have favorite entrees to recommend from Mountain House?
Their breakfast skillets are pretty good. I'm not overly fond of their dinner entrees since most of them are TVP not real meat, and they are a bit salty but underseasoned otherwise.
................., and they are a bit salty but underseasoned otherwise.
That's is one of the big problems with prepared food of any kind. Add that it costs more, and it makes a lot more sense to me to put together my own that is properly seasoned and not over-salted.
Spices and seasonings are, by the way, something that should be added to the stash. There is no reason to eat drab food. If the SHTF, there is going to be very little joy. A good meal will be a good moral booster.

Breakfast skillets. I love them and I usually fix them and make burritos. It's good food. I keep them on hand for times I want something easy and quick.....which is most of the time.
I like Mountain House. The pricing is more than competitive and their packaging is reliable. Delivery is fast. It's a fine company and I learned about them by reading this forum. So, thank you.
For those who like to have ready-meals available so you don't have to cook from scratch every meal, but don't necessarily like or trust the commercial combos, check out some of the "jar meals" from Chef Tess (Chef Tess Bakeresse). She has a lot of good recipes to make your own meal packets (in jars or mylar) from bulk long-term storage ingredients. That way you can adjust them for your needs and preferences -- meat vs. tvp, avoiding food allergies & additives, custom seasoning levels etc. I did some cost analysis making my own vs. buying a pre-made mix, and even with the cost of vacuum packaging most of the ready-meals were less expensive per serving than the commercial mixes.
