“We’re not in it to stockpile,” he proclaimed in a segment that was used to promote the show. “We’re in it to take what you have, and there’s nothing you can do to stop us. We are your worst nightmare, and we are coming.”
Once a thug, always a thug:
"It was language such as this that got the attention of local law-enforcement authorities – especially after they ascertained that Smith, who was featured firing all kinds of weapons he and his friends had stockpiled, in fact was a convicted felon forbidden to own or use weapons. He was arrested by Pierce County deputies on Wednesday."
There are always people looking for an excuse to be able to loot at will.
This dweeb was a child molester and a thief:
"Smith has two felonies on his record already: In 2009, court records show, Smith was caught fondling a 14-year-old girl in an Auburn parking lot and wound up pleading guilty to “communicating with a minor for immoral purposes.” In 2009, after failing to pay for a motorcycle he purchased, he pleaded guilty to first-degree theft in Pierce County."
Read your own link. This idiot was not a prepper, just your typical low life wanting their 15 minutes of fame on a stupid "reality" show, and the producers were all too happy to put some low intellegence type on national TV to get ratings, to hell with the truth.
Same thing as the "Real" housewives shows, but with less screeching.
Don't lump folks that actually want to be self sufficent or have supplies for an emergency in with common criminals. That's just hyperbole from the propaganda machine.
This seems to be the wish of those portrayed on the television program, for anarchy to see their plans come to life. Why else would one gather an arsenal of weapons if not with the hope and intent to use them?

Right, and all the people in New Jersey are in the mob because of a TV show.
All the teenagers in California live in Beverly Hills and have soap opera lives because that's what is said on TV.
All lifeguards run in slow motion! I saw that on TV too.
There are a thousand murders a day in New York, but all the detectives drop every other case to handle one specific one from start to finish in an hour to maintain law and order.
All the folks that live in Louisianna speak poorly and hunt alligators
All the folks in the Carolinas make Moonshine or live like hillbillies.
TV may wish to promote a stereotype, and usually does for the sole purpose of making money or a political statement.
Facts or the real motivations of the general population mean nothing to a producer.
They are making a TV SHOW, for CABLE TV usually, and it is FORENTERTAINMENT.
Which of those would lead you to belive that any facts are part of the mix???
Use your own intelligence, don't be led by the nose to a false conclusion by the hyperbole of a political agenda.

Why do you ask why people do things that you wouldn't do when you don't care to gain understanding about those people, but rather just something else to argue about?

Aren't you guilty of your own rhetoric by assuming there will be a day of anarchy as described by the series? After all if you put plans into place to an extreme measure by digging bunkers, hoarding food and setting up fields of fire that you would use to blast passerby, it would follow that you take seriously a hysterical frenzied mindset.

Do you know anything about prepping aside from what you saw on that TV show?
