TN, KY, WV, SW Va & western NC & SC areas seem best? The mountains help divide from coastal areas. I'd guess that the TN Cumberland Plateau ranks as best area east of Mississippi river.

We have a vacation place, just about a year old, in rural central TN. I am there right now, raising 212 baby turkeys, geese, and ducks. My wife has family in this area, and that is how we came to choose it.

The American south is a wonderful place. You can't find friendlier, more helpful folks anywhere. They talk a little funny (to my ears, anyway), but are good Christian people who believe in helping others. They are not "rednecks". But neither are they the snotty, over-educated types you find in the northeast.

Land prices are very reasonable. The weather is beautiful. I could stay here all year, except for the summer. However, it is not low population density. For that -- on the east coast -- there is only one real place remaining: Maine.
