That is really neat. I'm fascinated not just by the shelter itself, but the old things inside it. It's like finding a treasure to me.

Like the newspaper reporter, I wonder what the devil the owner had in mind when he brought down a telephone directory into the shelter.

How do you have something like that in your backyard for ten years and not investigate? The curiosity would drive me nuts after a couple of days, let alone ten years.

Locations of stores, pharmacies, sporting goods, etc for a wide radius to re-stock with when you emerge.

They were optimistic folks.

If your local area has been looted and/or destroyed, good luck to trying to go farther afield.

I remember that era well. We were terrorized into believing that even Podunk would be nuked, and yet conned into thinking that we might all get out from under our school desks or la-dee-dah out of shelters into our nuked world and not die of radiation poisoning or the other effects of an atomic attack.

In any case, a neat peek back into that era.
