The GSA was selling them a few years ago. I was interested in the auctions not for the silos, but for the surrounding farmland. If I recall correctly, most had been cemented off. It looks like some fool bought one and opened it back up, and now has a sitting liability as an "asset".
There is a misconception among the fantasy players that all missile silos, launch control centers, missile bunkers or hardened facilities are some ultra sophisticated ready for WW3 structure. Reality is, many are dilapidated shells that couldn't even stop a bunch of cheerleaders throwing raisins. It's the smart individuals selling these that are the true preppers. They take some unsuspected dolts money and obtain what is really needed.
In this particular case, the "silos" are not huge nor well fortified, they are designed to hold and protect a rather squat missile in a tube clustered with others (think a bunch of roman candles in a shoe box) controlled by a rather marginally protected launch control center. The center looks good and probably will fit in well with the hiddy hole bunker babes, but a real person would recognize the folly. So bidders were probably more interested in saying they own a missile silo/bunker than actually thinking it would protect them. Just like with an old rusted frame of a 49 Plymouth garage find, there comes a point where the nostalgic value is no longer worth the practical dollars being asked.
