As of April 1, yet another major supermarket chain has put an end to double coupons, in which a store matches a manufacturer coupon, doubling the discount. The move comes amid a larger strategic war against “extreme couponing” being waged by grocery stores tired of giving away food and household staples for next to nothing to savvy shoppers who know how to work the system.
Well that's a shame. Unfortunatley none of the grocery stores in my area have ever been "double coupon" types but I've always envied those who could take advantage of that.
I used to get all kinds of things for free back in California with double coupons. Unfortunately where I live now in Nevada, none of the stores doubles the coupons. The super Kmart does a double coupon thing a few times a year, for only 2-3 coupons, but it's clear across the valley in Henderson. Too far to save a few bucks.
I think every store should do double coupons. If they did, I would get back into couponing regularly.
In this area Tom Thumb is the only store I know of that still doubles coupons. Kroger used to double and triple coupons in certain amounts but due to extreme couponers, they no longer do.
I'm just waiting for coupons to disappear completely. Its just not worth it to get a quarter off three when it it used to be a quarter off of one. Even the dollar coupons have sort of become worthless as products shrink.
Abuse it and lose it.
I will be thrilled when extreme couponing is no longer the "in" thing. Sick to death of greedy people.
We had a give-away item and some customer got mad when we told her she couldn't fill her shopping cart with the entire stockpile. Couldn't understand why we limited it to one per customer, it wasn't fairrrr!
