I'm shopping for an electric shaver that I can use in the shower, with the shower water off, but nevertheless while standing on a wet shower floor. There seem to be a very large number of electric shavers that are advertised as being "waterproof" -- is that really the case? Can I really use an electric razor while standing on a wet shower floor and not get electrocuted?

I've had no problem doing this with my Panasonic razor. I can't speak for all brands though. Just make sure the razor isn't plugged into the wall.

I've been using a Phillips/Norelco 7300 for 4 years now. No issues in the shower at all.

I believe any cordless shaver should be OK in the shower from the point of not electrocuting yourself. The waterproof claims refer to the shaver not damaged by water, not damaging you. The problems are typically with plugged-in appliances immersed in water.

Thanks for the replies. Since starting this thread I've seen a video of somebody actually running a shaver under a stream of water. Really surprising.

Also, never use a plugged-in razor while sitting on the commode. This is especially true for men.

Because the tinkle can make a path to ground?

I read of it happening years ago with a man using a hair drier. The authorities weren't sure if it was the "path to ground" you alluded to, or from wet feet meeting the wet floor. With electric razors, women are far less likely to be shocked since they shave their legs while elevated, making the path to ground unlikely.

The waterproof Norelco shavers won't run when plugged in. They only operate on battery. You have to un-plug them to use them. And yes, if they are a "waterproof" model, they will will work under running water.

You do understand that you use it unplugged, right?
