I'm going to miss our Dollar Tree. It was good for craft supplies even if not predictable.
And every now and then I'd get lucky and they'd have Godiva chocolates.
Half the time I go now and it's closed. People just don't show up for work. And an unruly crowd hangs around outside and causes problems. Last week they smashed out a window. Now it's got boards for a window and looks like an eyesore in the little strip mall.

Any old enough to remember the 5 & Dime store? Huge penny candy racks, 5 cent Hershey bars, etc. Having a quarter got you sack full of stuff. Nothing stays the same. Remember putting a dollars worth of gas in the car as a teenager and driving around all night?
"Dollar Whatever" was always a stupid name, things can't stay a dollar forever, but I guess it was catchier than 'Bargain General' or the 'Bargain Shop'.
Look at it this way, is it still a bargain compared to Walmart or Target or whatever other stores in your area?
And yeah, the wages are crap. My daughter worked there for a short while, the employee Christmas 'bonus' from the company (not the mgr, the company!) was two cookies.
Yes....when I want shop "upscale", I shop at Walmart
Still a lot of deals at Dollar Tree.....
I buy cheap razors there....cheap paint brushes....all kinds of things....

That's a part of it. OTOH when a store has to close because ONE employee calls out sick (which I personally know of multiple instances) that's on the employer for being so tight with their budgets and scheduling. I'm honestly sort of flabbergasted that they choose to close down instead of hiring an extra employee or two. Which would cost them more in the long run, extra wages or loss of business?
