I get a new mattress every 10 years and move my old one into another room or the guest house. I throw the oldest one away.

mattress once every 10 years;
memory foam topper once every 3 years;
pillows once every year

increases in income/living space, going from twin -> queen -> california king -> back to queen due to space

drove more mattress changes than the calendar or perception of wear

I burned the marital bed as symbolic purge after the divorce
it took a team of 4-6 to help me move into this place. getting the old downstairs and new upstairs, would be actually quite the hurdle.

Every 10 yrs. Had a couple bouts of the flu in the last one so I decided it was best to trash it.

I just stuff some fresh straw in mine once in a while and call it good.

So as I've said, I've always had a mattress protector, just not the totally encased one, but it's over most of it, just not the very bottom. I don't mind getting a new topper every 3-5 yrs, but the mattress companies seem to be catching on that people aren't buying entire mattresses as often as they'd like because some of these toppers are pricey too.

I hadn't planned on getting a mattress anytime soon, I was just wondering. I just had to pay a big car repair bill & I have a few other things w/ a higher priority.
