First, are you a side, back, or belly sleeper? The type of pillow you need will depend on how you sleep. A side sleeper needs a more firm pillow to keep the head raised inline with the spine. A back sleeper needs a more flat pillow so the head is only slightly elevated when laying on back. If a side sleeper has a flattened or soft pillow then the head will lower towards the bed putting the neck at a bend and could create pain. If a back sleeper and the pillow is thick and firm then the head is elevated restricting breathing. Belly sleeping is the worst position and should be avoided at all cost. In this position either the face is buried in the pillow or the head is turned far to the left or right creating neck pain.

Another factor could be your mattress. If your mattress is worn with low spots then it’s time for a new mattress.

You might take a look at the Sutera pillow...it's funny looking, has wings, and I think has memory foam in it.

The wings are for side sleepers to lay your hand/arm into, or sleeping on your back, the "ramp" up from the bed to support your neck...and put your arms up into the wings if you wish.

I've used a relatively flat pillow since having two neck fusions, a small pillow nearby I stack on top of I roll to my side.

I'm at the pain clinic right now, and am going to ask the Dr what he thinks of the sutera pillows.

I'll try to let you know back.

Sitera has to be ordered through the Sutera website, unless it's also appearing on Amazon.

Not exactly cheap..$49-59 each.

I think the cover zips off for washing..I've not seen a video with it with someone using a regular pillow case...they might sell covers specifically for the Sutera pillow also.

But hey, if it's the right fit, and gives you years and years of long use, does a few bucks more now matter?

.I'll try to remember later to post update on what the Dr says.

Best
